Description

MEP Christian Ehler (EPP) and MEP Ville Niinistö (Greens/EFA) together with TAH Foundation and Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC) are hosting a high-level forum on the role of low-carbon steel in Europe’s green transition.

Steel production is responsible for roughly 7–9% of global carbon emissions, making decarbonisation of the steel sector a pivotal climate challenge. While technological shifts are already under way, market developments differ widely between different countries. This has led to major steel-producing countries pursuing divergent policy paths, which shapes the pace and direction of global decarbonization in the steel sector.

As the European Commission prepares the Industrial Decarbonisation Accelerator Act (IDAA), this discussion will focus on how the EU can turn the decarbonisation of the steel sector into a success, how it can strengthen EU competitiveness, and how it can contribute decisively to climate goals.

The programme will include policymakers, leading steel companies, and civil society voices, and will include a networking coffee.
