Nordic near-zero emissions steel roundtable in Brussels: Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

Nordic near-zero emissions steel roundtable in Brussels: Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism

The Coalition for Near-Zero Emissions Steel, a newly established Nordic initiative, is organizing a breakfast roundtable to support dialogue between policymakers and companies across the steel value chain in the Nordics, including steelmakers SSAB, Outokumpu, and Stegra.

This high-level discussion, titled “Protecting a Level Playing Field through the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism” will bring together a selected group of policymakers, industry leaders, and experts to explore how the EU can ensure effective CBAM implementation to safeguard competitiveness, prevent carbon leakage, and accelerate the transition to near-zero emission steel.

Achieving near-zero emission steel is essential for meeting the EU’s climate targets. Strategic policy actions, particularly around standards, public procurement, and financing, are urgently needed to create lead markets that stimulate demand, unlock investment, and build a competitive, climate-resilient industrial base.

This off-the-record roundtable is designed as an informal forum for exchanging perspectives and identifying concrete next steps.
