Zero emissions day across Europe

The international Zero Emissions Day (ZED) invites citizens, communities, and organizations to explore practical ways of reducing emissions and adopting sustainable practices. Originally launched in Canada in 2008, the concept was brought to Finland by Climate Leadership Coalition in 2017. Since then, CLC has promoted the initiative actively and in 2025 introduced it to an EU-wide audience through the European Climate Pact community.

This year, Zero Emissions Day will be marked across Europe from 18–21 September 2025, offering businesses, municipalities, and educational institutions an opportunity to showcase their climate solutions and highlight how they contribute to reducing carbon footprints while increasing positive handprints.

Zero Emissions Day is increasingly used across Europe as a platform to exchange ideas, pilot solutions, and strengthen collaboration in support of international climate goals. Organizations are encouraged to share their actions and solutions on social media using the hashtag #ZeroEmissionsDay.

If you would like to learn more about previous campaigns and events that our member organizations have organized for their staff, customers, and other stakeholders over the years, please see the introduction material compiled for the European Climate Pact Community.
