Near-Zero emissions steel: Nordic perspectives on Europe’s clean transition

Time: December 4 2025, 16:00–19:00 (CET)
Location: Norrsken Brussels
Join us on Thursday, 4 December 2025, at Norrsken Brussels for a high-level event Towards Near-Zero Emissions Steel – Nordic Perspectives on Europe’s Clean Transition.
Hosted by the Nordic Near-Zero Emissions Steel Group brings together companies across the steel value chain in the Nordics, including SSAB, Stegra, and Outokumpu*, to engage with policymakers in driving the competitive transformation of the sector and addressing investment barriers.
The event will bring together policymakers, industry leaders, and researchers to discuss how scaling up near-zero emissions steel production can help the EU meet its climate goals while safeguarding competitiveness and sustainability.
The programme will open with welcome remarks and a keynote speech from Director-General Kurt Vandenberghe (DG CLIMA), followed by a moderated panel discussion with MEP Emma Wiesner and MEP Sofie Eriksson, with further speakers to be announced, exploring:
- Policy, market, and technological enablers for near-zero emissions steel
- Aligning climate ambition and competitiveness in Europe
- Public procurement, industrial alliances, and the development of lead markets
The evening concludes with a networking session, offering an opportunity to connect with peers from across policy, industry, and research communities.
