Global policy work

As a Northern European network, CLC takes part in global initiatives and networks to foster cross-border solutions and amplify the role of business in advancing global climate action. CLC has established partnerships with global economic organizations and other actors in order to drive discussion, especially about the market mechanisms and carbon pricing instruments, to mitigate climate change.

COPs as an important platform

Climate Leadership Coalition is officially recognized as an observer organization under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This status allows CLC to participate in the UN’s annual climate conferences, known as COPs. Since 2015, CLC has been actively involved in these global climate discussions contributing to negotiations, showcasing Nordic solutions, and organizing events. When relevant, CLC also takes part in biodiversity COPs. UN Climate conferences serve as an important platform for advancing global activities and partnerships, such as CLC's Call on Carbon work.

In addition to the COPs, CLC also takes part in other major climate events when relevant, including Climate Week in New York City and London Climate Week.

These international gatherings are important platforms for promoting Nordic climate solutions and launching global initiatives—such as CLC’s Call on Carbon, which advocates for stronger carbon pricing policies worldwide.

Connecting CLC members to global climate policy

CLC facilitates a working group for its members on global climate issues, and the group follows policy developments in between the COPs and advances CLC's international initiatives on market mechanisms. For CLC members, this platform also serves as a place to connect with CLC's global stakeholders.
