Climate Leadership Coalition welcomes the European Commission’s Clean Industrial Deal as a timely and necessary initiative. We emphasize the importance of aligning climate, industrial, and security policies to ensure a coherent and forward-looking strategy for Europe. At the same time, we stress the need to maintain ambitious climate targets. CLC fully supports the proposed EU goal of a 90% net reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, with distinct targets for both nature-based and technological carbon removals.
A predictable and stable investment environment, underpinned by clear and streamlined regulation, is essential to enable the scale of clean industrial investments required. We also highlight the critical role of affordable energy, particularly from renewable sources, while recognizing the diverse energy market conditions across EU member states. Furthermore, CLC calls for the development of lead markets for clean technologies and materials, such as near zero steel. We also emphasize the need to establish lead markets for carbon removal solutions, which are vital for achieving climate neutrality and creating new industrial opportunities.
