The annual climate conference of the parties (COP) is the UN’s primary decision-making platform on climate policy and the world’s largest climate event, bringing together representatives from governments, businesses, cities, research institutions, and civil society.
CLC has been actively participating in COPs since 2015 and has COP observer organization status. This status gives us access to the official platform and site of the negotiations, the so called “Blue Zone”, and over the years we have been able to bring our own, small, business delegation to the conferences. Observer organizations can also host official UNFCCC side events, and besides these, CLC has facilitated high-level dialogues, events and climate ambition in different arenas of the COPs.
In 2015, CLC’s representatives supported the inclusion of carbon pricing into the Paris Agreement by facilitating a connection between Brazil and the EU. Since 2021, CLC has advanced carbon pricing discussions at COPs underneath the Call on Carbon initiative and brought together various decision makers and leaders to discuss how to increase the use of carbon pricing instruments globally. Last year, in COP29 in Baku, CLC hosted a high-level panel on carbon pricing with leaders and experts from Canada, Germany, Finland, and the WTO, OECD, IMF and World Bank.
In COP28 in 2023 CLC was part of the team that built the first-ever Finland Pavilion to the climate negotiations and has been a strong advocate for Nordic collaboration of the pavilions.
"Participating in the UN climate COPs is important for Climate Leadership Coalition as it provides a significant opportunity to influence global policies and promote carbon pricing in a global context”

Supporting CLC members at COP30
CLC will host events for all our members who are present at COP30 in Belem, Brazil in 2025. We will also invite negotiators from the Nordic delegations to join these activities. Our annual Nordic Business Mingle and dinner for all member companies and stakeholders are traditional highlights. Our global carbon pricing initiative, Call on Carbon, will again bring together decision makers from various countries as well as leaders and experts from international economic organizations.
In addition, we’ve been supporting the Finnish Pavilion for COP30. Our CEO Tuuli Kaskinen currently chairs the pavilion’s organizing committee and the process is led by one of our members, Miltton. The pavilion offers a platform to highlight innovative solutions for achieving carbon neutrality and addressing critical climate challenges.
The Finnish Pavilion will give us some flexibility in hosting events, and companies outside of Finland are also welcome to join. We’re also actively supporting collaboration between the other Nordic pavilions and are in close contact with their teams.
